I burned a lot of time figuring this out. Peachtree accounting software is user-friendly software and easy to use, which makes it easy for the user to maintain daily workflow and other insights. I found use and navigation of the new version to be very comparable with the old PT CA 2012. You can then delete the dummy company you created if you want, although it's not necessary. The new version will then walk you through a conversion of the data. Be sure to click on the boxes you want converted - in my case I had some form templates set up that I wanted to migrate along with all the data. Once you have finished creating this dummy company (takes about 20 seconds), click on File, Restore, and select the backup of your PT CA 2012. Create a new company (a dummy version - I called my "test") and just accept all of the suggested parameters - you are not going to use this company, this is only being done to open the application. After install, and upon opening the application, it asks if you want to open an existing company or create a new company. Make sure you have that backed up, and answer yes.

During the install it will ask if you want to replace your installed version of PT CA 2012. Unfortunately, neither QuickBooks nor Peachtree accounting (two popular programs for small businesses). Convert a company from another accounting program: Select this option if you want to import company data from Peachtree Complete Accounting for DOS or Peachtree Classic (PCA), Quicken, or some other program.

The product name originally derives from the UK and Ireland version of the product where the number 50 indicated that it was aimed at companies with up to 50 employees. Sage offer different products under the Sage 50 name in different regions. I purchased Sage 50 Premium Accounting 2019 (single user) on Amazon for $300. Some accounting software provides location tracking. Copy settings from an existing Peachtree company: Select this option if you want to copy setup information from another Peachtree company or you are rebuilding a Peachtree company. Sage 50cloud is a set of accountancy and payroll products developed by Sage Group aimed at small and medium enterprises. In addition, 2012 is the last version that can be migrated to Sage 50 2019. To migrate you must have Premium or Quantum versions.

Note that PT CA 2012 cannot be migrated to the Pro version (the lowest cost). Premium and Quantum can be purchased for multiple users, but I only bought the single user version. Note the word "Cloud" does not appear in the product name, indicating it is a desktop version. It's called Sage50 Accounting 2019 and it comes in 3 versions - Pro, Premium, and Quantum. Sage does not make it very clear this option is available, but it is. I wanted a desktop version, perpetual license, for one user. I did not want a cloud version of Sage50 - I saw no need to pay a large license cost and then pay again each year.

I wanted to upgrade but found the lack of guidance and info from Sage appalling, so now that I've finished the upgrade/migration, I thought I'd share what I learned in case it's of any help to anyone.
